Perhaps IWCs new 40mm wide Ingenieur dress watch was the most talked about new Ingenieur piece for 2013, but for those who like larger sport watches, these more simple-dialed Ingenieur pieces will fit the bill. Whether it is a phase or just because I like loud watches, I fully appreciate smaller dress watches, but simply have so little time in my life to wear them. When choosing a watch to wear on a daily basis, I tend to opt for three-hand sport watches that are at least 42-44mm wide. Knowing t [...]
With the 2013 movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby book being released shortly, we wanted to take a look at some of the best wrist watches from the roaring 20s. The 1920s, in a sense, was the first real decade of the wrist watch. It was when both men and women started to adapt wrist watches over pocket watches. Some of the best brands that make watches today were around back then, and of course the dominant design ethos of art deco was a major influence of watch design. In The Great Gatsby, auth [...]
In a pleasant surprise,?Longines invited us for the presentation of a new quartz movement that marks the return of their Very High Precision (VHP) watches. It is so important to the brand that Longines wanted to get ahead of the Baselworld 2017 rush. I assume, therefore, that this is going to play a crucial role in the future strategy of the company. Longines love story with quartz movements is a long one, so let us look back quickly and see where the new Longines Conquest VHP Very High Precisio [...]
2020 has been a year for vibrant dial colors in watchmaking, particularly green and red, and as the year draws to a close Jaeger-LeCoultre has begun its 2021 celebrations a few weeks early with a timely burgundy dial take on one of its most enduring collections. The brands seminal Reverso collection will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2021, and to kick off a year of commemorative designs Jaeger-LeCoultre has teamed with world renowned Argentinian polo boot maker Casa Fagliano to deliver a uni [...]
For years now, IWC has dabbled with the idea that the classic German-style flieger watch can be just as much a lifestyle product as a tool watch. The idea is that the traditional aviator timepiece aesthetic could serve as a handsome mens jewelry item - in addition to being a sports watch. The concept is hardly novel, even at IWC, but recently I see the brand dressifying the pilots watch in a way that makes it clear that IWC wants its flavor of pilots watches to be an iconic and a status symbol. [...]
The past few years have seen watch brands increasingly turning toward vibrant color as a way to set their products apart from the pack. Sports/dress hybrid watches, in particular, have led the charge in this area, and as part of its 2022 novelties, Omega joins the growing trend with a rainbow of rich new sunburst dials for the versatile Seamaster Aqua Terra line. Split between the 38mm and 34mm variants of the series, these new dials bring a range of colors, from restrained to adventurous, witho [...]
This has to be one of the most cutesy luxury watches I have ever seen. And at a price that is going to be well over $60,000 it might need some growing up to do. Underneath the heart shaped bridge lies the worlds smallest production tourbillon in a watch. The small tourbillon escapement is just 11.6mm wide. Very small, indeed. The rest of the new Franck Muller Tourbillon Lady 3080 T is equally petite. The 18k white gold tonneau shaped case is 42mm high, and 30mm wide. Surprisingly, it is only 10mm [...]
Jean-Francois Sberro has been with luxury group LVMH since 2004. Following five years at TAG Heuer, the last 11 years hes been with Hublot, working closely with Jean-Claude Biver and Ricardo Guadalupe, and ultimately stepping up as the brands president for the North American market. Given his extensive experience within the luxury watch industry, we spoke with Jean-Francois to get his, and Hublots, take on the current situation, along with a glimpse into whats to come for the brand and the large [...]
Ive always had a soft spot for the Longines Legend Diver series. Im a big fan of super compressor style cases, and the complementary, bichromatic printing appeals to my fastidious tastes. The Legend Diver collection has its roots in reference 7042, released in 1960. The first re-edition came in 2007 and was followed by an updated date version in 2009, and a PVD-coated version last year. All four releases were 42mm-wide. The Longines Legend Diver 36mm is much more conservatively proportioned and [...]
Ive never felt like high-fiving someone after wearing a new wristwatch, but that was my precise emotional sensation when first putting on the new Citizen Calibre 0200 automatic watch. Even though I unboxed this pretty, new high-end Japanese timepiece alone at home, it would have been great to walk around a room high-fiving Citizen micro-engineers and watchmakers on the achievement. This isnt the most expensive Citizen watch ever produced, nor does it represent the brands latest high-tech innovat [...]
Occasionally, I like to mix up our format of watch reviews, so allow me once again to present you with a combo car and watch review. The goal is to look at each of these items independently, as well as to examine how appropriately they go together. For me, this review of a Bentley automobile and a Breitling for Bentley watch is a long time coming. The two luxury brands continue to have one of the few successful watch+car partnerships which is sort of funny thing in the watch world since there i [...]
Sometimes I wait a bit after news breaks to discuss a topic. That was the case with MBFs new HM (horological machine) 2.2 watch. The timepiece is a further extension of the quite pricey luxury HM2 watch. MBF has given the watch several version done in combos of metals (gold, titanium), ceramic, and of course colors and styles. Ive worn a few of them, and admit they are sorta cool. One of the biggest criticisms of that watch is that it was unwearable. True, the the wide box is tough to wear on yo [...]
Sometimes subtle changes are the best way to take a collection of watches to the next logical step in their evolution. With SIHH in full swing,?A. Lange Sohne is giving two of their watches a refreshed look that focuses on materials that emphasize the brands established designs while preserving the essence of their respective collections. Its a quiet change, but something fans of the Lange 31?and the Saxonia collections can appreciate for the sake of their simplicity and purity. With that said, [...]
Alright, time for another limited edition Oris watch in their racing-themed Williams F1 collection. The Swiss watchmaker has once again teamed up with the Williams Formula 1 Racing Team, this time to release the Oris Williams FW41 limited edition, a lightweight chronograph crafted in carbon fiber and titanium. With a consistent carbon fiber pattern across its case and dial, the new Oris Williams FW41 introduces some aesthetic changes to what has proven a successful look in the Williams F1 line, [...]

Sometimes, it is hard to get excited about new watches; sometimes, its even harder to not let yourself get too excited by something youll never be able to afford. But in the case of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Star of Infinity Double Tourbillon watch, Ive no trouble with the former and have completely given up on the latter. How much you like this piece will have a lot to do with how you feel about the Roger Dubuis Excalibur range to begin with. This Roger Dubuis Excalibur Star of Infinity Double [...]

Japanese Citizen watches and the American Fossil Group have announced a multi-year partnership to collaborate on hybrid smartwatches. The agreement is said to leverage each companys strengths by adding hybrid smartwatch technology developed by the Fossil Group to Citizens full watch manufacturing capacity which we saw first-hand in Japan here. So far, there have not been any products announced, but it seems we can first expect Citizen-branded watches to result from the deal. These are two large [...]
