Exclusivity breeds desire, or so it seems Hublot are hoping. The Classic Fusion Chronograph Aerofusion model is a collaboration with the Watch Gallery and only 25 will be made. It is the fifth collaboration of its kind and the second with Hublot, following the dual release of their Classic Fusion Automatic and Chronograph models last year. As well as Hublot, Bremont, Zenith, and Bell Ross have had the Watch Gallery treatment. So why did LVMH-owned Hublot get another call so soon? Maybe it has s [...]
Since its debut in 2016, Maurice Lacroixs Aikon line has swiftly grown to become one of the most attractive affordable options in the white-hot integrated bracelet sports watch category. As the line has evolved, the brand has spent a significant effort in differentiating the basic design into something with its own unique personality to stand out in a sea of similar concepts. Its latest attempt in this direction is one of the most striking: the Aikon Chronograph Skeleton. Beyond simply adding a [...]
While Cartier has rightly earned its place as an icon in watchmaking, its contributions to haute horlogerie are often far less discussed than designs like the Tank or Santos. While they may fly relatively under the radar, these offerings rarely lack for spectacle, and the brands first haute horlogerie collection of 2021 is no exception. This exclusive box set trio of designs all aim to push the aesthetic limits of skeletonization, inspired by both the brands own design traditions and the dramati [...]
The watch above is the newer-ish UTS Adventure Power Reserve watch. UTS is a hardcore boutique tool watch maker in Germany, with a very dedicated production team and a small volume of watches made each year. It is rare that they release a totally new product, and for Basel World, that is just what they have done. The Adventure Power Reserve really dont look like anything else in their line up. In my opinion, is strongly similar to the below Breguet Moon Phase Power Reserve Ref. 7137BA/11/9V6. Mi [...]
For 2019, Glashutte Original, the Swatch Groups German outpost in the small Saxon town of Glashutte, has released the Glashutte Original Spezialist SeaQ 1969 watch in two variations, one limited, and one of general release. Both the limited and unlimited versions are designed with high functionality in mind. The excellent dial legibility is useful beneath the waves or just as a daily wear, and the superlative German manufacturing one expects from Saxonys horological hotbed is sure to keep your d [...]
Casio has recently debuted a new version of its current-generation G-Shock MTGB2000 that combines a dark-colored case with a combination of lightweight materials such as carbon and glass fiber. Casio claims that these materials are up to 77% lighter than steel. The resulting watch is the MTGB2000YBD1, and it is certainly lighter than the Casio G-Shock MTG reference MTGB2000D-1A that I went hands-on with here. How much lighter is the MTGB2000YBD1? The other MTGB2000 that I previously covered weig [...]
In Beverly Hills at an event held at the Breitling boutique, the Swiss brand unveiled the latest capsule Top Time watches collection honoring three classic American cars. Breitlings U.S. president lamented that not enough of the special edition watches were allocated for U.S. soil given the inherent popularity of these automotive icons in their home soil. If you are an American, then cars like the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang are as well-known as bread and butter. To a slightly lesser deg [...]
While this is not exactly a surprise, it is pretty neat. James Bond has been wearing an Omega watch for a long time (since maybe 1995). The brand was able to usurp omega as was the watch chosen by Ian Flemming originally. In the upcoming James Bond 007: Blood Stone video game, the digitized version of the Daniel Craig will wear a prominent Omega Seamaster Professional Ref. 22005000 watch. It is part of the Planet Ocean collection and has a retail price of $3,950. I believe that this is the same [...]
Its pretty big news whenever A. Lange Sohne release a new timepiece. Bigger still is the announcement that four new wristwatches will make their debut at the upcoming haute horlogerie exhibition in Hong Kong. This will be the third such fair in the centre of the Asian market, and Lange deemed it an appropriate platform by which to launch their new collection, which includes the A. Lange Sohne 1815 Chronograph, because of the continents strong links to manufacture and the growing enthusiasm for [...]
More relatively affordable Swiss watch action from Oris. New for 2010 is this updated BC3 Sportsman model in a 42mm case. This is about as no nonsense as youd want to get with a watch, and Oris keeps all the functionality youve come to expect in this collection. For years that have been centrally aligning the day and date windows for a nice clean look. As you can see, at 6 oclock you have two stacked windows with the calendar information. Done well with white text on black discs to match the dia [...]
For years I have complained that even high-end watches dont come with instruction manuals. That isnt universally the rule, but it is the norm. While that isnt likely to change, brands like Omega are taking the logical next step by creating video instruction manuals and putting them online for everyone to see.Pretty recently (as in a day before this article was written) Omega created a new section of their YouTube channel called Omega Video Manuals (as a playlist). The playlist currently contains [...]
Sponsored PostHublot and Shawn Jay Z Carter, one of the most important cultural icons of our time, have joined together in a creative collaboration resulting in two stunning timepieces in 18k yellow gold or ceramic as part of the newly unveiled Shawn Carter Collection. The decision to collaborate was an obvious one-Carters relationship with the watchmaker has long been lauded through his frequent references to the brand in his lyrics and his admiration for the luxury watchmakers bold designs and [...]
For perfectly good reasons, an ambassador announcement rarely elicits more than an eye roll in the watch world, but when a brand partnership is done right, and for the right reasons, everyone stands to get something out of it-including watch fans. Thankfully, Breitlings recently assembled Surfer Squad is surprisingly shaping up to fall in the latter camp, at least in my book, with the debut of the new Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown edition watch. Now, bear in mind this isnt an [...]
For 2014, we get a new Jaeger-LeCoultre watch with the famed Caliber 876SQ movement. The existing movement has been executed in a new way for the Master Grande Tradition a Quantieme Perpetuel 8 jours SQ limited edition that, according to Jaeger-LeCoultre, is inspired by a grand complication pocket watch made in 1928. A lovely piece, the new watch combines enameling and engraving in addition to the highly complicated movement. The Caliber 876 family of movements has seen a lot of life in various m [...]
I had ambivalent feelings when I first learned about the new Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar Rose Opaline limited edition, so Im happy I have it in for a review to get to know it better. Basically, its one of those rare dressy-elegant watches with an outstanding price and design and durable appeal ratio that, for some weird reason, still comes only as a limited edition. Full review and contemplation on limited editions, here we go.About Those First ImpressionsFirst, I thought it looked bloomin [...]
What exactly is a Cosmopolite? A Grande one at that? You may find out In 2012 at Baselworld, I was excited about my forthcoming meeting with Glashutte Original. The (probably) under-appreciated Swatch Group-owned brand makes some fantastic watches. While they have their place in the Swatch Group and cant do everything they like, they still abide by Germanic principles to produce useful, high-end watches focused more on function and tradition versus mere luxury lifestyle. So I waited eagerly for [...]
Really soon (6pm on September 24th) it will be time for the Only Watch 2009 watch auction. I summed up the detail a bit here, and here. Click there to get the specs on it all. Frankly I am a bit tired of writing Only Watch 2009, but just because there has been so much to say about it. The concept is really cool; your favorite watch makers need to make special unique watches that are then sold to the super elite, and the money goes to charity. The auction is held at the Monaco Yacht show every ot [...]
The search for a good GMT watch never ends and one of Bell Ross latest entrants to this crowded two-time zone arena is the BR V2-93 GMT. Continuing on with Bell Ross vintage and military history-inspired modern day luxury timepiece tradition, the BR V2-93 GMT blends a series of design elements into one rather cohesive product. One of the most popular types of watches for enthusiasts, GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) watches are useful because they show two time zones on the same dial allowing them t [...]
Back in January,?Breitling released the first new collection with Georges Kern at the helm. The Navitimer 8 Collection?was shall we say,?controversial (an understatement if you ask me). Many enthusiasts were in awe of the first Breitling theyve ever liked but were met with the cumulative groan of long established fans saying, Wheres the slide rule bezel? This isnt a Navitimer. Give this its own collection! Well, both sides can rest at ease tonight, because Breitling announced the release of thei [...]
For SIHH 2016, Roger Dubuis will unveil a new carbon-cased version of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic 42 Skeleton watch (hands-on here) that was originally introduced at SIHH 2015. One year later, we see a new carbon-cased version which adds an interesting flavor to the Roger Dubuis brand that we havent seen yet. Ill remind you that the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic 42 Skeleton was the first non-tourbillon skeletonized version of the Excalibur watch released by the brand. If you wanted t [...]
