Im wearing a Bell Ross as I type. I love it, but Im always a little embarrassed that it isnt one of the square ones. I mean, thats the whole point, right? The brand is so firmly committed to that concept, its hard to believe they ever made a round watch. But perhaps the fact that they did and were able to get away with it is a testament to just how far this brand has come since its foundation in 2005. Fourteen years in, were treated to yet another timekeeping instrument, reminding us that there [...]
In my opinion this is a Patek Philippe watch you just dont see every day. Not sure if it is still being made, but this is a Patek Philippe Ref. 5085 and is quite stunning for what it is. You really dont see a lot of Patek Philippe watches on metal bracelets aside from the sport themed Nautilus. This piece is extremely classic in style, and very legible. The movement is always quite pretty.Interestingly enough there are at least two types of casebacks for this watch. Some have exhibition caseback [...]
A brands 185th anniversary is no small achievement-lets just make that clear. At Baselworld 2017, Longines marked this occasion by announcing a new collection of simple, Calatrava-styled timepieces known as the Longines Record watches. Aside from offering buyers a choice from four sizes and an assortment of dial options, these watches incorporate a few?technical touches to assist with accurate timekeeping. Of considerable note here is the fact that this is the first collection of watches from Lo [...]
2018 saw Swiss Omega release an entirely updated Seamaster 300M diver watch collection ( hands-on here). The updated Seamaster 300M was intended to retain the core look and feel of the popular Omega divers watch while bringing the products technology and materials into the 21st century. This is the first Seamaster 300M watch collection to include a Master Chronometer certified in-house made Omega movement, which to me is a big part of keeping the Professional nature of this sports watch intact. [...]
2014 has brought a lot of impressive new Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces, and this new version of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Cylindrique a Quantieme Perpetuel ref. 5042420 is one of them. Having said that, because it is not technically a brand new watch, but rather, a slightly new version of a timepiece that is still just a few years old, Jaeger-LeCoultre released it in an almost under-the-radar manner. Nevertheless, despite the comically long? and rather non-distinctive [...]
In 2017 Omega released a slew of new Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M watch models, which offered easy to miss, albeit important changes to the brands premier sports lifestyle dress watch. Sport-style dress watches are important in many markets such as the United States, where elegance as well as masculinity are key areas of interest for many consumers. The Aqua Terra isnt just designed for the United States however, which makes the larger Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial Master Chronometer wat [...]
With the release of the A. Lange Sohne Lange 1 Tourbillon 25 Anniversary watch, Langes run of 10 special editions released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the companys re-foundation following German reunification comes to an end. As a lover of German brands, in general, but none more so that the esteemable A. Lange Sohne, I have enjoyed following these releases. The colorway used has been consistent throughout, and the white and blue porcelain palette (my words, not the brands) gives each [...]
Oris has really found its groove with the Sixty-Five collection. It took me a while to get into the brand because I saw a lot of just-okay pieces that looked like homages to other brands. What the Sixty-Five collection did for me was create a blueprint in my mind of what an Oris is, and now the whole collection feels like a memorable core and a solid base from which to work. The Oris Sixty-Five Chronograph is a welcome addition to this evermore established family that was relaunched in 2015, 50 [...]
For 2013 one of the limited edition A. Lange Sohne watches will be this neat looking and very high-end Grand Lange 1 Lumen timepiece. The piece is a mix of a few ideas that Lange has offered over the years. While typically very heavy on the look what cool new stuff we developed, language, German A. Lange Sohne is much more straight-forward in how they discuss this watch. In fact, while this piece will sell rather well, it is a sort of Frankensteins monster of Lange using ideas from a few past [...]
While an increasing number of brands throughout the watch industry have been partnering with environmental conservation initiatives over the course of the past few years, few have made these efforts as central to their overall brand message as Oris. The independent marque has made efforts around the globe with various environmental partners, particularly focusing on marine and aquatic preservation efforts. 2020 has already seen Oris reunite with the Florida-based Coral Restoration Foundation to [...]
105 years after its introduction, Cartiers Tank has demonstrated a staying power enjoyed by few other watch models. Its safe to say that few, if any, timepieces have remained as true to form for as long as the Tank, thanks to a simple layout that has served as a canvas upon which designers have adapted the Tank to the times. This ability to update the basic design without losing the Tanks essence is perhaps the key to its success. So it is that Cartiers new Tank styles, announced at 2022s Watches [...]
Sponsored PostIn 2011, Glashutte Original introduced a new cushion-shaped case to their 20th Century Vintage collection called the Seventies Panorama Date. Last year at Baselworld, Glashutte Original introduced a new Seventies model featuring their new Calibre 37 chronograph movement: the Glashutte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. Here, we compare the silver dial Glashutte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date to the brands other chronograph models, as well as the Glashutte O [...]
For SIHH 2019, Montblanc has announced several models including two new versions of their TimeWalker chronograph. With a more traditional look than that of the existing collection, these offer some small albeit?significant aesthetic updates that should help broaden their appeal. With their panda dials and tachymeter scales, they feel more familiar and vintage-leaning, with some other small refinements here and there. However, while its funny that a difference of only 2mm can be a big deal in the [...]
IWC Ingeniuer Chronograph Edition 74th Members Meeting at Goodwood in rose goldWith the cacophony of Baselworld 2016 releases reaching something of a nadir, we see the release of three new IWC Ingenieur Chronograph watches that opt for a vintage-inspired case over the previous Gerald Genta design, and also feature a new in-house IWC 69370 movement. These three specific models are limited editions commemorating the 74th Goodwood Members Meeting, which is a weekend-long racing event. The IWC Ingen [...]
In 2012, Jaeger-LeCoultre originally debuted the Spherotourbillon ref. 6052520 (aka Q6052520) watch, and we revisit it again now, with some better pictures, and after having reflected on the model two years after its initial novelty has mellowed into todays more mature look at this mega-timepiece. first took a hands-on look (with video) at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Spherotourbillon watch here. Visually stunning, the irony of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Spherotourbillon is that it is neith [...]
It was back in 2011 that Hublot originally came out with the watch that eventually became the Hublot Spirit Of Big Bang. I recall the event in Geneva when Jean-Claude Biver announced that he accepted a request to produce a watch that was something along the lines of what if Hublot produced a watch inspired by Richard Mille? The two high-end watch makers tend to offer products at very different price points (though both very high-end) and enjoy a mutual respect of one another. The resulting creat [...]
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the original A. Lange Sohne Langematik Perpetual Calendar, Glashutte, Germany-based A. Lange Sohne is set to release two new limited-edition (of 50 pieces each) versions of the Langematik Perpetual watch with midnight-blue dials? - fitted with either an 18k white gold or 18k pink gold case in the references 310.028 and 310.037, respectively. Many watch lovers dream about wearing a watch with a perpetual calendar mechanism. Such a complication is among [...]
For the last two editions of Baselworld, Oris has taken mighty swings at their mid-century heritage, delivering the Diver Sixty-Five in 2015, and then a slew of vintage re-editions in the seasons that followed. For 2017, the independent Swiss watchmaker is ushering in a new generation with its core sports watch collection, the Aquis, and doing so with a series of subtle case and dial updates that should please both present and future Aquis fans. Spearheading the Gen 2 Aquis collection is the new [...]
Paris-based Hermes has always taken a couture approach to its watchmaking division, incorporating not only finely decorated in-house movements, but high-end leathers and high metiers dart dials that are hand-crafted to the same level of perfection required by fashion houses in order to earn the haute couture label. The Arceau Robe du Soir, Arceau Caveles, and Slim DHermes Les Zebres de Tanzanie are the latest examples of this highly crafted, limited-edition aesthetic. The Arceau Robe du Soir is a [...]
Exclusively for the serious watch collector, one of the most compelling watches (in my opinion) debuted at SIHH 2018 is the?1815 Homage To Walter Lange (originally debuted on here) produced by Glashutte, Germany-based A. Lange Sohne. The A. Lange Sohne 1815 Homage to Walter Lange introduces a quirky complication in a very limited edition of timepieces meant to honor Mr. Walter Lange, who passed away in early 2017. The complication itself was originally created by A. Lange Sohnes namesake and [...]
