Swiss watchmaker?Franck Muller?is known for their in-house production of grand complications and largely luxury-oriented collections. However, Franck Mueller has recently announced a completely new watch which departs from their core design language-the new Franck Muller Master Diving watch, a 46.33mm wide, stainless steel, automatic divers chronograph with some vintage styling.Clearly not intended to be subtle, the new Master Diving Collection boasts a wrist-crushing 46.33mm wide by 55.4mm long [...]
The king of bling this is not, the king of cool, this just might be. I was giddy like a school boy to be playing with the Richard Mille RM028 watch. This is the more reasonable version of their diving watch line. The earlier RM025 Tourbillon Chronograph Diver is almost a cosmic joke being a half million dollar diving watch. It also doesnt have the pure energy that a watch like this has. The irony of an ultra complex sport watch is that you still need to be relatively delicate with it. While this [...]
So, at Baselworld 2015, our very own James Stacey found the first quartz Breitling watch that he liked-and it was a version of their newer Aerospace Evo with the new Night Mission skin. In addition to the Breitling Aerospace Evo that we went hands-on with, there is also the Breitling Aerospace Evo Night Mission 30th anniversary model which used the same black colored case and strap but has a yellow dial in honor of well, the 30th anniversary of the Breitling Aerospace collection.Back in 2013, Br [...]
When I wrote my Baselworld 2012 recap, I pointed to this watch as being one of my top picks from the show. There is nothing inherently novel or innovative about it. Nor does it represent a new design direction for Bell Ross. Still, the piece is extremely appealing and well-done from a design perspective. So why is it still a top pick and great watch from Bell Ross?Between when this watch was debuted and now, Bell Ross changed the name of this piece. The official name (now) is the Bell Ross V [...]
For 2012 Piaget will release this very special watch that furthers their desire to be the thinnest around in a number or categories. Last year it was the Altiplano 43 Automatic that was the thinnest automatic watch with the thinnest automatic movement. This year (perhaps among other record things) Piaget will offer the thinnest skeletonized automatic watch around with this strikingly good looking Altiplano Skeleton Ultra-Thin timepiece. The Altiplano Skeleton Ultra-Thin is technically another dou [...]
You know a watch is downright attractive?when non-watch lovers comment on how nice it is. There are quite a few examples of clean, classic aesthetics that speak a universal language. With the release of the Harry Winston Midnight Date Moon Phase Automatic watch, the innovative Swiss brand is spreading its message through the dialect of design. To me, the Harry Winston Midnight Date Moon Phase Automatic is one of those watches, just like the Lange Sohne Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, and the Nomos La [...]
For fans of the tourbillon, Jaeger-LeCoultres mega Gyrotourbillon watches are the ones to look out for. These watches are usually the pinnacle of Jaeger-LeCoultres stable, often offering multiple complications to go with a complex multi-axis tourbillon. The latest Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon Westminster Perpetual is the fifth watch in the brands Gyrotourbillon series, and it could very well be the most complicated one yet, combining a multi-axis tourbillon driven by a [...]
With the latest horological artwork available on the Store, we pay tribute to three true icons of the 20th century: Sean Connery, the omega Submariner, and James Bond, i.e., Agent 007. The story of Bonds Submariner is a rather mystical one, so paying homage to it required a combination of diligent research and creativity - making do with what we have on hand. We worked together with our featured horological artist to create the most accurate and, by every chance, the largest depiction of Conner [...]
Paris-based Bell Ross has always been a fashionable brand, and products like the BR 03-92 White Camo (reference BR0392-CG-CE/SCA) help prove it. Even though Bell Ross products are all deeply inspired by tools and the people who use them, the brand is rarely shy to release timepieces which are patently artistic or merely fashionable when the situation merits it.The BR 03-92 Camo is a new limited edition take on the core BR 03-92 Instrument watch that is the smaller, 42mm wide version of the lar [...]
At SIHH 2017, Montblanc debuted a smart new member of the vintage pilot watch-inspired Montblanc 1858 collection with a dual time complication. In a two-tone steel and bronze case, the Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time is an uncommon offering given its particular design, choice of materials, and functionality. The Montblanc 1858 collection is comprised of quite high-end and more accessible models. Last year after SIHH 2016, I looked at the Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition wa [...]
Apparently, this is the first open-dialed Montblanc Minerva watch so far. Thats interesting because, over the last few years, every high- to low-end mechanical watch brand has made great efforts to dazzle consumers with open dials and movement skeletonization work. And yet, the masterful manufacture that is Montblancs Minerva in Villeret has apparently not, until now, produced a timepiece that displays the beatific grandeur of its in-house mechanical movements (especially the chronograph). What [...]
Under the cover of night, I pass a heavy bag of dive gear to a waiting hand and then pull myself aboard the Nautilus Under Sea. This 96-foot craft would be my diesel-powered home for the next 16 days, and my ride to one of the most remote island atolls in the world. Im tagging along on the Big Migrations II Expedition to Clipperton Island, some 1,236 kilometers (768 miles) into the Pacific Ocean, south of the Baja Peninsula. Sponsored in no small part by Oris watches, I am the only watch press m [...]
Just announced by Movado is its new Connect 2.0 smartwatch, the brands follow-up to its first smartwatch that was released in 2017. I got to spend some time with a 42mm Connect 2.0, but first a quick rundown of whats new: Two smaller case size options, interchangeable straps, GPS, heart rate monitoring, a rotating smart crown, programmable pushers, and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip (1GB RAM /8GB storage are the big updates and changes.Smaller Cases, Interchangeable StrapsThe first g [...]
Remember Movado? Yeah, they are still around. The American-based watch company is still holding its own out there as a decidedly more quiet company with mostly a focus on points of watch sales rather than media and publicity. A few years ago, Movado created the SE Extreme collection which from the very outset was clearly an homage to the Hublot Big Bang. For 2014, Movado adds two new SE Extreme watches as the Movado SE Extreme Automatic Chronograph as well and the Movado SE Extreme Automatic Div [...]
The watch industry is facing tough times, and offering more affordable pieces that present a real value proposition for buyers is an obvious way to reach a larger market. For mainstream luxury brands like Breitling, this means more bang-for-buck pieces like the new Colt Skyracer that we have here. In covering the release of the Breitling Colt Skyracer here, we said that it has an extremely reasonable price at around $2,000. Thats maybe not quite a steal, but the Breitling Colt Skyracer is a soli [...]
Full disclosure: we didnt exactly get behind the wheel of a Lotus F1 team car and hit the track to put the physics lesson tucked inside Richard Milles latest creation to the test. But then again, it wont take an eye-watering lap around an undulating course to appreciate the mechanical marvel that is the Richard Mille RM 50-01 G-Sensor Tourbillon Chronograph-a watch utilizing several familiar Richard Mille signatures in an entirely new configuration designed in perfect harmony with the world of F [...]
Last March I was very intrigued by the marketing images of this new Roger Dubuis Easy Diver SED Tourbillon watch with its intense level of skeletonization, in carbon fiber, that looked like tree branches. If you look closely, you can tell that the movement is barley even there. The biggest parts are the one minute flying tourbillon and the mainspring. Surprisingly, the manually wound Roger Dubuis caliber RD 02 SQ3 movement has a 60 hour power reserve (movement bears the Seal of Geneva). One thin [...]
For 2013,?Breitling has released a very attractive blue version of the already rather rare Navitimer 1461 model. An interesting item, we take a hands-on look at this stunning piece. Let me address something first. If other watch writers are anything like me, there is one particular request (aside from what watch should I buy?) that annoys us. That is to write an article or sum up current watch trends. This is what happens when watches get mixed into the abyssal pool that is fashion, which appare [...]
Aside from smoked black or clear sapphire case-based models, what is really new in Hublots Big Bang collection for 2016 is the Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 watch with a brand-new in-house-made movement. Baselworld 2016 was relatively quiet for a lot of brands when it came to new releases, but that doesnt mean there wasnt some cool new stuff. If anything, Hublot focused on other announcements so much that the Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 might have been quite easy to overlook. With that said, this is a ver [...]
For 2021, Casio introduces a handsome black and gold version of the G-Shock GSTB100 that exists within the larger G-Steel sub-collection. G-Steel is where youll find many truly mid-range G-Shock models that combine the causal appeal of their entry-level models with the technology and materials of their higher-end fare. The price range for these mid-range G-Shocks tends to go from about $350 $600.The GSTB100GC-1A is among the most fashionable of the GSTB100 models with its all-black IP-coated st [...]
