The Cartier Cle (Cle de Cartier) Mysterious Hour watch is probably my favorite new Cartier mens watch model debuted here at Watches Wonders 2015 in Hong Kong. It is actually a combination of three existing Cartier elements. First, is the also new-for-2015 Cle de Cartier watch (hands-on here) collection case. Next, is the in-house made Cartier caliber 9981 MC which was debuted in 2013. And last, is a presentation of Cartiers particular form of semi-skeletonized dial that we have seen from almost [...]
First things first, the Glashutte Original Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized Edition watch that you see here isnt actually a new watch. Glashutte Original actually put out a rose gold version in 2012. But that was a limited edition version of which only 100 pieces were made. On the other hand, this new version, which was announced late last year, will be a regular production model. So if you missed out on the rose gold version in 2012, nows your chance to get the Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized Ed [...]
It was during Baselworld 2015 that we?originally debuted?Breitlings then-prototype?connected device, the Breitling B55 Connected Watch here. Several short months later, Breitling has modified the original concept in some noticeable ways, and allowed us to be among the first to?go?hands-on with the finalized version ready to hit the stores. We are here to tell you all that we have learned about the exact specifics and the hidden functionalities of this high-tech blend of quartz timekeeping and wi [...]
Innovative haute horlogerie brand Richard Mille has built its reputation upon the use of exotic materials, complex construction, and extremely intricate sporty design. These designs have become icons of their own in the ultra-premium sports watch field, helping to drive a new generation of hypercomplex sports chronograph designs. When Richard Mille itself announces that its newest release is its most complex timepiece ever, then, that statement carries more than a fair amount of weight. The Rich [...]
Among haute horology brands, A. Lange Sohne has secured its place with enthusiasts as the darling of the industry. Defined by its ability to push the envelope and create mechanical marvels - both technically and aesthetically. Building upon what has previously been considered the brands go-to stainless steel, integrated-bracelet sports watch, Lange has gone and made the ODYSSEUS even more formidable by releasing a limited-edition iteration comprised entirely out of titanium. This is a timepi [...]
Years from now, 2020 is likely to be a fascinating year for watch collectors. The unique nature of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically restructured brands release plans, likely impacted overall production numbers, deeply influenced sales trends, and influenced the industry in countless other less tangible ways. One of the most fascinating of these ways from a collectors perspective is what could be dubbed the phantom limited edition. Many limited-edition releases in the modern [...]

The Watch_Brotherss are a duo of actual watch designers from Hong Kong who have done something artistically interesting and worth talking about. What they do is use their Photoshop and design skills to merge various watch models they like to form hybrid designs which range from cool and desirable to really weird and thought-provoking. I interviewed them in order to share a bit about yet another mysterious set of personalities on the often anonymous world that is social media and because what th [...]
The newest in-house movement from the house of Breitling for 2012 is the caliber 05. It builds on the original caliber 01 by adding a handy world time ring to the dial. The movement debuts in the good looking Transocean Unitime watch, which will now be promoted by new Breitling brand ambassador David Beckham. I go hands-on with the watch to tell you what it is all about.Recently Breitling unveiled the modern Transocean collection with a three-hand and chronograph model which I reviewed hands-on [...]
Chronometric performance is a subject we often dont talk about when it comes to new watches. For the most part, we are only focused on the aesthetics and we tell ourselves that if we really want to know the precise time, we should stick to quartz watches or our phones (or smartwatches). That may be true, but I certainly wont want to be wearing a watch, no matter how beautiful it is, if its unreliable with accuracy. As a result, I have a soft spot for watches that are chronometer-certified and on [...]
In the United States Omega is to a very large degree the Seamaster and Speedmaster watch brand. Those two timepiece families mostly dominate the image we think of when someone mentions Omega. Lets think about some of the more noteworthy things Omega is known for. Well there is the moon landing watch for one that was a Speedmaster. There are the modern James Bond watches, those are all Seamasters which are on my mind right now as I just saw Skyfall a few days ago. Omega is a sport watch brand t [...]
Jaeger-LeCoultre has captured my attention with the addition of the first minute repeater to the Ladies Rendez-Vouz Collection: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater. As its name suggests,?this ivy-encrusted timepiece is of undisputed elegance-and that elegance is much more than?skin-deep. In 2012, Jaeger-LeCoultre debuted the?Rendez-Vouz Collection to?provide women the chance to own serious mechanical complications-rather than the more ubiquitous downscaled mechanical versions, o [...]
The natural beauty of Japan has been at the heart of Grand Seikos design inspiration for the past several years, with models inspired by everything from snowdrifts to tree bark to the delicate tones and textures of cherry blossoms. One of the standout examples of this philosophy is the 2019 Seasons collection, a series of four North American exclusive designs aimed at highlighting the unique seasonal feel of Japan at different times of the year. Grand Seiko has returned to this concept for 2021 [...]
Ever since Carl F. Bucherer released their in-house made caliber A1000 movement in 2010 with a peripheral automatic rotor, I felt that more watches needed to integrate peripheral rotors in their mechanical movements. For 2014, Audemars Piguet releases a new ultra-high-end version of the Royal Oak Offshore with a new visible dial-mounted peripheral automatic rotor that exists in addition to a tourbillon and chronograph complication. What is a dial-mounted peripheral automatic rotor? Many of you kn [...]
Many years ago, when I wrote my first article about a watch, the watch I wrote about was a Panerai. Over the past decade, Panerai has grown and iterated but the root of my appreciation, that instantly recognizable Italian diver aesthetic, has remained as their calling card. Despite the fact that I did, and still do, love the Panerai look, they almost always prove to be too big for my wrist. Last week, as I scanned a collection of large and larger new Panerai watches at SIHH, I was thrilled to se [...]
In Villeret Montblanc is feeling very proud of itself. It has gone from making pens, to being a preeminent watch maker. The recent acquisition of popular family owned (previously) Minerva gained Montblanc that ability to tout in-house movements. So now their watches look nice and have lots of bragging rights. While I enjoy some Montblanc watch designs more than others, I cant argue that any of their recent releases are anything less than elegant and well conceived. In celebration of Minerva turni [...]
In 2013, Hublot announced a new partnership with the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team as their official timekeeper and presumably watchmaking partner. At the same time, Hublot announced a watch collaboration with Lakers star player Kobe Bryant and went hands-on with the Hublot King Power Black Mamba limited edition watch for Kobe Bryant here. For 2014, Hublot now releases a watch exclusively for the team with the Hublot King Power Los Angeles Lakers timepiece.Swiss watch brands Hublot and Aud [...]
In the early summer of 2015, we sat down with Jaeger-LeCoultre to take a look at something special they wanted to show us. We were not able to take pictures at the time, but we did get some excellent hands-on time with the follow-up models to the new Geophysic collection that was introduced by Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2014 (hands-on here). The Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic collection has now officially blossomed with a unique personality as well as a unique family of movements which is something not onl [...]
Cartier has made it pretty clear that the Calibre case is going to enjoy a lot of life. It has served as the base for everything from mainstream luxury to ultra-high-end Cartier models, and continues to have a promising future as Cartier currently prefers the Calibre as their premier mens model. One of my personal favorite aspects of the Calibre is that no one has ever referred to it as unisex. Many Cartier timepieces have that fluid sense of French polish that makes them good enough for a man, [...]
The team is thrilled to announce an exclusive drawing we have developed with Tamas Feher. We chose Tamas as the featured horological artist of the Store based on your feedback in previous comments sections - many of you wished for a new artwork that featured a genuinely affordable timepiece. This is actually a first for Tamas, as well, after having created well over 100 artworks to date, all of which were consigned to showcase high-end and ultra-high-end pieces. And so we listened and delivere [...]
