Guest post by Lex StolkWhen Vacheron Constantin introduced the revamped Overseas collection in 2016, a seed was planted in my brain. During this years SIHH I got my hands on the full range of Overseas models causing that seed to make a growth spurt. The Overseas is an ultra-luxurious sport watch just like the benchmark in that category, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Question is: can the new Overseas be a real alternative to the Royal Oak?It was at a five-star hotel in Amsterdam where the Vacher [...]
Last year at SIHH, Cartier made waves with the debut of the mens Drive de Cartier collection (hands-on here) that featured an all-new cushion-shaped case?that has really seemed to resonate with longtime fans. This year, Cartier has added two new models with the Cartier Drive de Cartier Moon Phases watch and the Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat.?Initial impressions here are that the Drive de Cartier Moon Phases presents a sufficiently pleasant, yet somewhat obvious option in steel or gold that adds va [...]
After meeting with Maurice Lacroix at Baselworld 2013, I walked away very impressed with the new Pontos S Diver. I was excited to see their new three-hand dive watch as I knew it was going to be introduced at the show. You see, I am among the many people in the world who absolutely loves dive watches but havent quite mustered the time to you know actually dive. It is on the list though. So why is it that I am so infatuated with timepieces designed to go underwater? I am not sure exactly, but I d [...]
In addition to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic True Second watch, another new timepiece in the collection for 2015 is this Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time that adds a world time complication, stunning world map dial, and a larger case size. Jaeger-LeCoultre originally released the first Geophysic watch in 1958 and the cult favorite was something only niche collectors knew about until 2014 when Jaeger-LeCoultre decided to reintroduce the collection as the Geophysic 1958 watches (hands-on [...]

While I am not the type of guy who is that interested in vintage style watches, there are a lot of excellent exceptions such as the newer Breitling Transocean. When Breitling shared this piece with me I immediately liked it. Sure it is a retro-type piece, but ti is not a watch that is overtly retro. I would rather suggest it is a traditionally styled watch something that has a more timeless quality than looking as though it is stuck in a past era.Last year Breitling introduced the chronograph v [...]
In the slow warm Swiss summer, Cartier wrapped up its announcement of their latest concept watch called the ID Two (ID2). It is a follow-up to the ID One watch from a few years ago and while something totally different, is a serious step forward in the progress the ID One attempted to make (the futurization of the mechanical watch). There are a few ways of looking at the ID Two. You could look at it as a gear-head watch lover and be in awe, you could look at it as a luxury marketer and scratch y [...]
There are times that I wish I could have experienced the watch industry in the 1970s. Oh what an interesting time. Quartz regulated movements debuted in the late 1960s and was still an extremely expensive novelty which everyone was interested in, but no one quite knew what to do with. Mechanical watches still reigned supreme, and the era saw the creation of the modern sports watch as we know it. It was also a time of extreme optimism and experimentation from a design perspective. The worlds inte [...]
Prior to SIHH 2014 I previewed the Parmigiani Bugatti Aerolithe Flyback Chronograph watch. In discussing Parmigianis latest Bugatti partnership timepiece I was overall impressed with the design and features that were remarkably sober and blended a nice masculine design with a successful combination of both Parmigiani and Bugatti brand DNA. Now that Ive had some hands-on time with the piece I have to say that this is one of my all-time favorite Parmigiani timepieces.Compare the Parmigiani Bugatti [...]
Both of these watches are Bell Rosses, and both are BR01 watches. Though they are like twins separated at birth. One went the path of luxury while the other spent their years in a discipline rich military environment. I like that two personalities can come from the same type of origin, and both are useful watches in their own respect. The first watch is a new one, but it was announced a while back. it is the Bell Ross BR01-93 GMT. Previous to this, only the BR03 watch had a GMT model, and it w [...]
Several years ago,?Glashutte Original released a 1960s inspired watch called the Senator Sixties. It was controversial at the time, and personally I wasnt all that into it. My feelings probably hinged on the fact that it wasnt the type of watch I expected from the brand. Though after some revisions Ive come around and find the most modern interpretation of the Senator Sixties (the Panorama Date) genuinely cool. It still isnt what I consider classic Glashutte Original, but I genuinely like it.For [...]

This is the UTTE watch by Arnold Son, and apparently it is the worlds thinnest tourbillon. The trend of watches getting ever chunkier year after year seems to live on without disturbance but the race for the ultimate in finesse and subtle elegance can be just as stirring as well and the manufacture of Arnold Son is here to prove that point by releasing something to excite those who admire such fine treats of horology. With their ?double-balance?and earlier on with the?inside-out?watches they [...]
Omega Aqua Terra GMTExecuted in beautiful copper-colored 18 carat gold, we have the Omega Aqua Terra GMT reference 231.50.43.22.06.002 in for review today. Defining the high end of the Aqua Terra GMT series, I was delighted when Omega offered to let me borrow one for review. Lets start with the gold. Its 75% by weight, as you can see by the hallmark on the lugs:[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP7FFdSMcAc]The case is a blend of brushed and polished finishes, quite striking and very well [...]
We wore a new Montblanc Timewalker model for a little while during SIHH, so we thought you should know a little bit about it. There seems to have been a resurgence in world-timer watches these days among many brands. In many ways this is understandable given the increasingly global nature of our world. No longer is the simple GMT adequate anymore. Knowing only two time-zones is so passe when world-timers offer the possibility of reading off all the time-zones of the world at one glance. Well all [...]
Looking at the past a bit I want to bring your attention to the Roger Dubuis Golden Square. Not the contemporary model, but the one from a few years ago. In a 43mm wide square case, the watch screamed luxury in a way few other watches have. Bold and loud, the watch still in good taste. People that wear one suddenly feel a bit more important, but you arent sure why. In fact, I believe the watch may still be in production, even though there are newer Golden Square watches available. While the Gold [...]
There werent any watches of note being worn in Bruce Browns seminal surf opus Endless Summer from 1966, but had there been, a Breitling Superocean of that era certainly seems like it wouldnt have been out of place, gallivanting around the world in pursuit of the perfect wave. New for 2020, Breitling has introduced a new capsule collection closely resurrecting the aesthetic of its inaugural Superocean from 1957 - a quirky but capable sports watch whose dial was characterized by a segmented hour h [...]
The Montblanc Heritage Manufacture Perpetual Calendar Limited Edition 100 watch gets refreshed for Watches Wonders 2021. Vintage aesthetics with a burnt caramel dial and an 18kt rose gold case hide a patented manufacture complication developed internally.Worry not, no caramel got harmed in the making of this dial. First introduced in 2019, the Montblanc Heritage Manufacture Perpetual Calendar entered the ring as a competitively priced dress watch. In steel, it ran for 15,000, while the red gold [...]
