Conversations we normally used to have at places like Watches Wonders and Baselworld have moved on to a digital interface - hopefully, temporarily. Still, a bit of social distancing wont have us without nerdy and insightful chats with the most influential people behind the scenes of the watch industry. Beyond our regular and hugely popular Instagram Live sessions on the @ Instagram account, we love to create other opportunities to perform tradeshow-style interviews and chats. This is the transc [...]

For 2017, Patek Philippe has released their fifth Advanced Research watch, designed to show off the latest innovations and material developments from the brand. The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time Ref. 5650G Patek Philippe Advanced Research watch shows off two developments being introduced by the brand: a Spiromax balance spring made of Silinvar (Pateks proprietary silicon) and a flexible-mechanism for the second-time zone settings. Notably, this is the first Patek Philippe watch to have a p [...]
Back at Baselworld 2015, one of the new Breguet watches was an extremely interesting and visually attractive-if you like watch movement porn, that is-chronograph that combines appealing technology with a refined and distinct Breguet look, known as the Breguet Tradition 7077 Chronograph Independent. This watch was so nice, in fact, that included it in our list of the Top 10 Watches Of Baselworld 2015. It isnt cheap, nor is it meant to be, but the Breguet Tradition 7077 Chronograph Independent is [...]
Sponsored Post written for by advertiserThe days of tediously searching page-by-page through auction catalogues for the perfect watch are thankfully behind us, with the digitalization of the auction market providing all consumers with access to exquisite modern and vintage timepieces. Although browsing what auctions have to offer has been facilitated hugely by the internet, the market still remains tricky to navigate. Many auction houses have chosen to maintain the traditional structure of the [...]
Italian Panerai is often criticized for releasing watches that are too similar to what they have been producing for years. That is true to a certain extent. Take the new Luminor Base Logo 3 Days, for example. How many people know the difference between the Luminor Base Logo 3 Day PAM773 and the PAM 774? Hint: its the logo. Panerai is obviously keen to shake off this stereotype and their two newest limited edition watches are vastly different from anything else the brand makes. This is the new Ra [...]
Ill admit it, SIHH was never exactly the trade show Id religiously tune into as a watch enthusiast and not once did I feel any kind of remorse about my mental absence-work obligations aside, of course. This year, however, you cant deny that we saw the industry shift slightly as brands explored new price brackets, pivoted their marketing efforts, and moved to restructure their approach to developing the latest and greatest products for the new year. Dont get me wrong, the 35 participating compani [...]
You simply cant have a conversation about Jaeger-LeCoultre without mentioning the Memovox alarm - one of the Swiss maisons most interesting, and longest-running complications. Its a shame that there arent more mechanical alarm watches out there, as the complication ranks alongside a date or a chronograph as the most practical features to have on your wrist in everyday life. As we most recently saw with JLCs update of the Master Control collection back in April for the inaugural digital Watches [...]
There is no shortage of competent field watches out there, but the value that Hamilton is offering with its new titanium version of the classic Khaki Field watch is worthy of attention. Its not as attention-grabbing as the brands digital PSR revival, but for the buyer looking for an everyday field watch that is legible, finished well, and lightweight, while being under the $1,000 mark - this piece should be on the short list. That simple combination of classic, traditional style with contemporar [...]
Welcome back to an original feature, My First Grail Watch. In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry? Roland G. Murphy (RGM): I am the man and watchmaker behind RGM Watch.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?RGM: It was a Patek 3970 back in the 1980s. I did get one used that needed work, I repaired it and sold it back in the early 90s.ABTW: Was there ev [...]
Is this the week of American themed watches or what? Just a few days ago I discussed the Perrelet Turbine XL America, that was a bit of a polarizing piece. Now I present to the Swiss Hublot US Liberty Bang one of Hublots latest limited edition Big Bang watches. This watch was unveiled recently in Philadelphia of all places during the annual award ceremony where the Constitution Center (a non-government organization) gave out its annual Liberty Medal award. The watch will be exclusively availabl [...]
In the current state of the luxury watch market, few if any categories are hotter than integrated bracelet steel sports watches. Brands from nearly every corner of the industry have spent the last several years refining takes on this sports-luxe formula, but nearly all of these designs have deep stylistic roots in designer Gerald Gentas work in the early 70s for brands like Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe. With this in mind, most of the current crop of integrated bracelet designs share more t [...]
Ive had high hopes for the Hublot Big Bang Integral ever since I first saw it back at LVMH Watch Week 2020. That debut model was a 42mm chronograph iteration of the Big Bang with a new and excellently finished integrated bracelet. Recently, I got to see the newest - and simplest - addition to the collection with the new Big Bang Integral Time Only watch. There are three variants at launch (titanium, black ceramic, and yellow gold), all of which come in a 40mm wide case for the first time ever.My [...]
Just launched is this brand new Bugattiwatch and car. The car I will cover briefly, and the watch is the newest timepiece made and developed by Parmigiani to continue the Swiss luxury watch brands relationship with the ultra-high end car maker. The watch is called the Parmigiani Bugatti Super Sport and is an evolution of the Bugatti Type 370 watch collection just like the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is an evolution on the standard (relatively speaking) Veyron. Available with an all carb [...]
Burning skull tattoo is not normally what I would consider to be a solid formula for a cool new timepiece. In fact, it sounds like quite the opposite. And yet well, lets just say that this Bell Ross BR01-92 Burning Skull Tattoo watch (officially just called the Burning Skull) is surprisingly not awful. Actually, it is rather well-done, in a tattoo-with-burning-skulls sort of way. It is also the latest in a long line of skull watches from Bell Ross that commemorates the original 2009-released B [...]
OK, I will admit that this Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Minute Repeater watch doesnt really need to have a small protruding plaque on the dial that informs the wearer of the Sonnerie element of the movement. (SEE UPDATE BELOW). In person, this feature really isnt terribly distracting, but I dont know that it is very important. I bring this up now because it is really one of the only obvious downsides to this otherwise amazingly wearable high-complication watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre. [...]
Welcome back to an original feature, My First Grail Watch. In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry? Magnus Michelsen (MM): Im the brother, son, grandson and great-grandson of watchmakers. Although Im not a watchmaker myself, Ive grown up admiring and working with watches. I am the Marketing Director of the Icelandic micro-brand Michelsen, the countrys [...]
When considering purchasing a Japanese quartz watch under $500, many enthusiasts can quickly think of brands and sub-brands like Casio, G-Shock, Seiko, Seiko 5, Prospex, Citizen, and maybe any fashion brand with a Japanese quartz movement to broaden the landscape. But while reading my previous sentence, did you happen to think about Edifice and its collection of watches? If you did, bravo (silent golf clap), but if you didnt, I wouldnt blame you, as its always taken a back seat to G-Shock and it [...]
This cute ladies watch from Cartier?is called the Secret Panda. I dont use the term cute all that often to describe timepieces, but this one certainly is. All in 18k white gold clad in diamonds, black sapphires and two emeralds for the eyes, this little panda is literally humping the watch. Slide the little humping panda down and you reveal the time. You can even move the panda back and forth quickly to make it appear as though it is humping quickly. I love stuff like this. Cartier makes a lot [...]
