The lauded omega Submariner is one of the most popular luxury watches in the world. Easily the most popular steel-cased (or otherwise) luxury diving watch, the omega Submariner sets the bar in many ways when it comes to timepieces of its type, at its price point. has reviewed the omega Submariner here, offered a long-term review of the omega Submariner No Date watch here, and even compared the omega Submariner to its cousin watch the Tudor Heritage Black Bay here. With that said, the omega Subm [...]
The first IWC watch to feature a digital display of the time was actually made in the late 19th century. In 1884, a deal between Johann Rauschenbach and Salzburg watchmaker Joseph Pallweber gave IWC rights to the Pallweber system. The Pallweber system is regarded as the first digital pocket watch movement. The brands first digital pocket watch, according to IWCs archives, was the Savonnette pocket watch Pallweber of 1886. The new IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition 150 Years is a pretty faithful re [...]

Boy, that sure escalated quickly, right? With most of the free world in either government-mandated or self-imposed quarantine, and the watch industry in a collective tailspin due to the sales and manufacturing havoc wreaked by the Corona virus, theres a spooky air of now what? looming amidst all the uncertainty. But here at , weve been experts on working from home and social distancing since 2007 - long before it was cool. Remember, were watch nerds, right? Even if youre new here, though, you pro [...]
Its probably quite a good sign when a watch appears both familiar and radical in the same glance. The overall sense I get from the Harry Winston Avenue Dual Time Automatic watch is that it slots neatly into the category of Art Deco masterpiece, but under further scrutiny, each of the elements presents an off-kilter styling that seems completely modern. Deco-inspired pieces have always benefited from the cleanliness of their parent principle. Basically, Art Deco is never as overtly passe as many [...]
Last month at an event in London, Renault announced the?R.S. 17, a beast of a Formula 1 machine set to make its debut at the?2017 Australian Grand Prix later this month. Bell Ross?shortly after announced the new Bell Ross BR RS17 watches, incorporating several design and material elements found in the recently announced Renault Formula 1 racer. It would be easy for a lot of brands to try and take an aviation watch and totally screw everything up by deciding they want an F1 racing-inspired line [...]
While the famous high-end watch maker Patek Philippe certainly has other mono-brand boutiques in other parts of the world, they will open their very first American stand-alone boutique this month in July of 2012. The location is Los Angeles on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Patek Philippe timepieces have been featured in the watch and jewelry store Gearys on the same street. In cooperation with the powerful retailer, Patek Philippes Los Angeles brand boutique will be operated by Gearys and will b [...]
Hublots most technically interesting new watches for 2018, in my opinion, are the new Hublot MP-11 Power Reserve 14 Days timepieces that come in two versions (sapphire crystal or 3D carbon). With that said, the most complicated watch released by the Swiss brand is actually a new version of the MP-09 (Masterpiece collection #9), but the MP-11 has a new look and movement which exists as part of Hublots ongoing modification of the long power reserve movement technology originally designed for the H [...]
My most recent new watch was an Oris Diver Titan C Small Second. Before discussing the watch itself Id like to discuss how I came upon it. Watch enthusiasts really need a 12 step program. We are hardwired to always think about watches, our best bet is to channel our addiction to timepieces properly. Watches are where my brain wanders to during supposed down time. I often think about it as the thrill of the hunt. How many times have the readers of been obsessed about their next purchase, only to [...]
One theme I noticed at SIHH 2012 was a bit of a return to more classy connoisseur-driven high end watches. Brands like A. Lange Sohne and Greubel Forsey released tourbillon based watches with tourbillons not visible from the dials. For Lange it is this highly useful and complicated creation that pulls at the heart strings of seasoned watch lovers and novices alike. The watch is the A. Lange Sohne Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar watch. It is actually one of three new Lange 1 timepieces for [...]
Sponsored Post written for by advertiser.Almost ten years ago, Bell Ross launched its first BR 01 Skull and made a lasting impression by breaking with traditional watchmaking codes. The Bell Ross Skull family has since become an iconic collection and welcomes this year, a new version of this cool outstanding concept.Theres indeed a long and rich tradition between skulls and time. Aside from an undeniable reference to pirates, this emblematic watch symbolizes the military codes, especially the [...]
Going into Watches Wonders 2022, Parmigiani is launching three new pieces in its Tonda PF collection. Certainly the first Parmigiani collection to have crossed over into a broader segment of the watch collecting community, the Tonda PF now gets a skeletonized model, a flying tourbillon, and a GMT Rattrapante travel watch that oozes style (and is my personal favorite of the entire Tonda PF collection).Ill start with the biggie, the Parmigiani Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante. Yes, a GMT Rattrapante. The [...]
Grand Seiko and Nissan just launched one coldlooking limited edition in celebration of their respective 20th and 50th anniversaries. Enter the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Nissan GT-R Anniversary Limited Edition SGBC229, the latest reference to join Grand Seikos respectable Spring Drive Chronograph lineup. As much as I wish we had gotten to see these at BaselWorld 2019 just a few weeks ago - someday maybe Ill understand the logic behind going to BaselWorld at tremendous expense and then strategically [...]
Many fine watch brands like A. Lange Sohne face a challenge today: How do you broaden your reach to find new customers who value what you offer in a world where fewer people than ever understand how to appreciate traditional mechanical watchmaking? Education and exposure is the general answer, but how does a prestigious and conservative timepiece maker from Germany accomplish such a task? I sat down with Professor Michael Biercuk to find out how A. Lange Sohne is sharing its refined heritage b [...]
Say hello to Breguets newest Classique Chronograph, an update on a classic with a twist. The new ref. 5287 is built on a solid and historic movement. Something about the watch got me thinking So pardon our little tangent. OK, so there are two very contradictory types of feedback that we get on . Well, I lied. We get many different types of feedback but I am about to refer two in particular. Some people fault us for covering so much weird stuff they dont want to buy. Other people praise us for co [...]
Bulgaris dive watch makes a welcome comeback for 2015 with the Bulgari Diagono Scuba collection. Bulgari timepieces are products I like a lot, and if their design theme melds with your tastes (as it does mine), there is a lot to like about these Swiss-Made Italian-designed luxury watches. For 2015, the Bulgari Diagono diver is back with extra durability and a more refined style that is very much still in the long-standing and highly successful Bulgari Diagono collection. What watch lovers will [...]
It is nice to have your tastes validated, especially by people with such legendary priss a Swiss watch magazines. The magazine Montres Passion once again released the results of their annual Watch of the Year Award (2008) giving actual trophy awards to several watches in a few categories. However, the title of watch of the year and best ladies watch were both awarded to Piaget watches. Both watches that I like a lot; the Piaget Altiplano Petit Seconds (aka the Piaget Altiplano Eccentric Small Se [...]
In an effort to reign in the past while continuing to offer pieces that catch the eye of modern watch buyers, Longines has built up a legitimate offering through their Heritage Collection. Whether youre looking for a diver or a Weems, there are quite a few choices?that seem to be placed above the usual?options you have when looking at the brand. Dive watches are popular. No shocker there. Vintage divers? Even more so. When a brand can breathe life into a vintage design and make it appealing to m [...]
My favorite new Hamilton watch for 2013 is the Khaki Pilot Pioneer Auto Chrono. This is a mechanical version of last years quartz-base Khaki Pilot Pioneer, and offers a much more appealing version of this slightly retro-styled aviator chronograph timepiece. Swatch Groups Hamilton is not the most expensively priced brand in the group, but at least once a year they offer a watch that mixes a fair price and fantastic detailing in a watch that is really hard to resist. Anyone familiar with Hamilton [...]
