Whenever a new watch is released by a prestigious brand, accompanying reams of marketing material extolling a retrodden technique as unique are almost par for the course. However, with the release of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Unique Travel Time watch, one of the industrys most celebrated brands has produced something that catches the eye from all sorts of angles.Boasting an in-house calibre and a dazzling dial, this new travel companion from Jaeger-LeCoultre is genuinely something of interes [...]
As part of their sale of Important Watches this year, Sothebys is auctioning off a unique red gold IWC Special Edition Pilots Watch Double Chronograph Edition Le Petit Prince. We took a look at the stainless steel version?of the childrens book-inspired watch, and this special version is being auctioned to benefit the?Antoine de Saint-Exupery Youth Foundation. ?Antoine de Saint-Exupery was, along with being the author of The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince,?en Fran?ais), an avid pilot who penned n [...]
Weve been waiting to get our hands on?the Montblanc?Heritage Chronome?trie Chronograph Quantie?me Annuel watch since we first heard about it. For those not caught up about this piece, Montblanc is offering a quality, good-looking, high-complication watch for a fraction of the price that other annual calendar watches go for. Personally, Im always skeptical when I hear about affordable alternatives to most things (not exclusive to watches), but Montblanc has successfully?realized where to save cos [...]
Over at Haute Living I wrote about this interesting new all black Hublot watch now with an in-house made Tourbillon movement (yay for Hublot adopting much of BNB Concept). Pretty interesting and about $160,000.See my Hublot King Power Tourbillon Manufacture watch article at Haute Lving here. [phpbay]hublot, num, 14324, [/phpbay] [...]
Graham is best know for their Swordfish and Chronofighter line of watches. Each are based on either diving or flying, with significant size and aggressive looks. They are known for high quality, English taste (Graham is of course British), and a catering to nostalgia. The two above mentioned watch lines are not their sole offerings, as two other lovely watches from Graham are the Oxford and Chrono Sprint. These immaculately styled watches have what I like to think of as an old world charm. The ar [...]
Most everything about the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon watch is new, including six of the eight patents protecting the movement, the shape of the case that is inspired by a pocket watch from 1907, as well as the achievement the good people at Jaeger-LeCoultre have reached in regard to minimal case thickness for a grand complication watch. Even the beautiful dauphin-style hands are new. In one fell swoop Jaeger-LeCoultres flagship timepiece for 2014 rew [...]
Just a nice large-sized thin watch from Blancpain? Not exactly. On the surface this handsome timepiece in the Villeret collection sports a rather thin manually-wound movement and minimalist looking two-hand dial in black or white enamel. The dial has just those signature Blancpain leaf-style hands in 18k gold as enameled Roman numeral hour markers. It is what is on the back of the watch that makes it the most interesting.I love (love) the large size of the watch at 45mm wide (and just 8.3mm thic [...]
Porsche Design? is one of those brands that has never been afraid to do things a little differently. A quick glance at their catalog is enough to demonstrate their fearlessness when it comes to watch design. Their simple time and date model, the 1919 Datetimer, for instance, has an unusual case shape with skeletonized lugs. And for 2017, the new Porsche Design Monobloc Actuator Chronograph takes inspiration from its predecessors and has one of the most unusual chronograph pushers we have seen.Be [...]
For 2022, Swiss Oris has released a rare higher-end watch that makes use of the traditional watchmaking decoration technique of cloisonne enamel. The watch is the second from the brand to celebrate the Chinese tale of the Monkey King (Sun Wukong), which is a theme the brand previously explored in the 2021-released Oris Sun Wukong watch (on here). The idea was to incorporate a pop culture and art reference in a way that Oris felt tied in well with the brand.Oris normally produces watches in the [...]
2019 is the 20th anniversary of Seikos coveted Spring Drive movement technology and at Baselworld 2019 a slew of models destined for release this year have been announced including these limited editions. Notably here is the return of a serious-looking sport watch that Grand Seiko now calls the Grand Seiko Sport. The two models here are the related Grand Seiko Sport Spring Drive Chronograph GMT SBGC230 in 18k rose gold as well as the high-density (scratch resistant) titanium Grand Seiko Sport S [...]

Did you know that like Omega, Breguet makes use of Liquidmetal? The special technology was purchased by Omega (via the Swatch Group) a few years ago for the production of bezels and dials. In the case of the Classique La Musicale 7800, Liquidmetal is used inside of the watch to create a better resonance system for the musical alarm function. Liquidmetal is apparently used in the production of the metal membrane which works with a series of blades that create the music box-style function inside o [...]
In 2017, Bell Ross introduced the BR03-92 Diver as the first dive watch in their well-known square case, and 2018 brought updated versions with a blue dial and this limited edition in bronze. The Bell Ross BR03-92 Diver Bronze goes further than a dial and bezel color with an all-bronze case, of course, but it otherwise retains more or less all the things I loved about the Bell Ross BR03-92 Diver when reviewing it in steel here. Its good to see this collection expand, as I feel it deserves a p [...]
Earlier this week, Patek Philippe announced that they have produced a follow up to their most complicated watch ever, the ref 5002 Sky Moon Tourbillon. The new Sky Moon Tourbillon model, reference 6002G, offers a more elaborate packaging of the 13 complications included in the reference 5002 Sky Moon. Indeed, much of the buzz created by the 6002 Sky Moon Tourbillon is not derived from its dizzying array of complications, but rather the manner in which Patek has decorated the case and the dials. [...]
I presume the above watch (update: called the Parmigiani Ovale I believe) will be officially released very soon (SIHH 2012 at the latest). It will actually be unveiled (not sure in its complete form) at a special Mechanical Wonders exhibition Parmigiani is involved in held in New York City from around October 26 November 26 2011 (at the La Vieille Russie) . As you can see, the special novelty is a modern recreation of a complication that is over 200 years old and the original solution to the s [...]
Short post, but here the images say it all. If there was ever a gaudy watch that I wanted, it would be this watch. I typically shy away from euphemistically decadent watches such as this, but I am oddly drawn to the golden hues and texturing of this special limited edition watch from Bell Ross. Take the extremely popular Bell Ross BR01 series, make it out of gold, and make it after gold bars, and you have the Bell Ross BR01-92 Gold Ingot. It is not just another gold watch, but a commentary on [...]
Wow, I did not expect to see something so bold from Blancpain this year. This is a totally new route for their diving watches. At first I was torn about the look (didnt see to be much more than what Invicta could come up with), but then I began to appreciate the more subtle items. Retained are the sapphire crystal tops on the rotating bezel (such a nice feature by the way), and new are the hands, and the face. The hands are really designed for perfect legibility in both light and dark situations [...]
Piagets flagship mens watch for 2011 is the Emperador Coussin Tourbillon Automatic Ultra-Thin. I first wrote about the watch here. There you can learn more about the technical details there and in the Haute Living article that I wrote. In this article I would like to talk more about being with the watch now that I have been able to molest it for a bit.Piaget was really proud about releasing this watch, but also I think they were a bit nervous as to the reaction. The design of it is very experime [...]
Big Pilot + Perpetual Calendar watch? Yes please! I personally think it is great. IWC did a good job with this orange and black beauty. But a limited edition only? Well, maybe we will see more of them in the future. Actually we have seen a lot of IWC watches in limited edition skin lately, and I wont complain when it is in Big Pilot form. Price isnt horrible given the movement at $28,000.See my IWC Big Pilot Limited Edition Perpetual Calendar watch article at Haute Living here. [...]
Just a few weeks ago, I?was fortunate to join Rado in Miami, Florida, visiting the Miami Open tennis?event of which the Swiss brand is the Official Timekeeper. While there, I took the opportunity to wear for a few days one of their tennis-inspired sports watches, specifically from the Rado Hyperchrome XXL Court Collection. Since we are speaking of Rado, Hyperchrome of course refers to the use of?one of the companys?ceramic?materials. As the name suggests, the case?to the naked eye appears to hav [...]
