With Patek Philippe and omega appearing to collectively cede their release calendar for the first half of 2020 due to the Covid crisis that unfolded at the beginning of the year, and Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet focusing on collections outside their Overseas and Royal Oak staples, theres an interesting arms race heating up in the highest echelons of luxury watchmakers who are looking to close the gap with ambitious and youthful new luxury-sport crossovers of their own. Joining the fra [...]
I dont love all Breitling watches far from it. Though I have always been a fan of the new Superocean watch collection, which for me ironically started with the Superocean Heritage watch collection. Be it the three-hand or the chronograph, those are awesome watches. Vintage watches tend to be smaller, but the vintage inspired Superocean Heritage was 46mm wide. Oddly enough, the futuristic looking new Superocean for 2010 watch is 42mm wide. Hmm. At 42mm wide it is a very wearable watch. Doesnt ha [...]
Cartier is one of those very few luxury Swiss watch brands that, for an extended period of time, has maintained both an extremely strong array of main collection offerings?and?a genuinely sophisticated, unique, and diverse line of haute horlogerie ultra high-end pieces. That arguably puts a lot of pressure on the company and Cartiers head of movement creation department Carole Forestier-Kasapi, as each year, they must up the ante and surprise the world with complicated high mechanics and stunnin [...]
Few watches have been as disruptive and defining in the modern era as the Hublot Big Bang. Ive spent a lot of time writing about Hublot timepieces, but Ive never actually reviewed the original Hublot Big Bang 44 watch until now. Many of the original designs are still produced today, so this watch-while representative of the original design-was produced recently. During my review I also spoke with Jean-Claude Biver about the Big Bang, since it was the first major release under his ownership of Hu [...]
The Histoire de Tourbillon series is going to get Harry Winston in trouble. Seeing how every iteration of this series of incredible legacy watches has gotten exponentially more and more complex every year, were starting to wonder?how on Earth will they be able to deliver something that can up the ante from the previous version. Still, it doesnt look like 2016 will be the year the Histoire De Tourbillon plateaued, with the introduction of the downright galactic Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillo [...]
On behalf of the team, Id like to first thank you for visiting the site, as well as helping our efforts to continually make better. In other words, your feedback is not only appreciated, but highly valued. Today, Id like to ask for about 15 minutes of your time in filling out our 2016 Audience Survey (which is below at the end of this article). While the survey will hopefully be enjoyable, in exchange for your time we will be giving away one or more watches (more details below). This survey i [...]
Everybody likes to receive a nice present to mark a special occasion. For my birthday, I got a new razor. If you happen to have $1,000,000 burning a hole in your pocket, you are cordially invited to purchase one of Hublots ten anniversary creations, marking the release of the most significant watch the brand [...]
Like it or not, athleisure is still white-hot. Thankfully though, the style trend still continues to evolve, having seemingly outgrown the glut of tailored sweatpants and brogues with sneaker soles from previous years. Newly revised in 2017, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day Date is leading a similar growing evolution in the luxury sport watch category, where technical details are key, but so are good looks-and like a tailored blazer made with waterproof Schoeller softshell, or a windproof Merino w [...]
With the Heritage line, Longines has been leveraging their design history to produce some supremely cool watches, including the Legend Diver, Avigation (reviewed here), and the Heritage Diver 1967 (hands-on here). Adding to that collection with the brand new Longines Heritage Military COSD, Longines has designed a watch in reference to a model used by the British Special Forces in the 1940s. With a clean field watch aesthetic, accessible sizing, and the option of a nato strap, the Longines Herit [...]
I consider this cool new Breguet watch as one of the neatest new pieces in their 2012 collection. It is all based on a marriage of the brands iconic classic look and their highly sophisticated, high frequency mechanical movement. It isnt for everyone, but enough hardcore watch lovers like me will no doubt get excited by a piece like this. The full name of the watch is the Breguet Classique Chronometrie 10Hz Reference 7727. While the reference number is 7727, that is not the number youll find on t [...]

This may be a historical co [...]
What do you know! As different as John and I are, the last watches we each bought were the same. We are now (once again) Omega brothers, each rocking a Speedmaster Mk II. We discuss the interesting world of watch auctions and try to dispel some of the myth and magic that can get in the way of a good experience. We also discuss the rather odd Ralf Tech Torpedo and an Artya watch with real tobacco inside.Listen to the HourTime Watch Podcast episode 167 here. Direct MP3 download here.http://traff [...]
As I continue to look at the biggest challenges facing the wristwatch industry today, I often come to the topic of marketing and consumer demand. In this article, I turn my attention to an analysis of the emotions involved when a consumer purchases a timepiece. Why does someone want a timepiece in the first place, and what needs to happen for a consumer to justify spending money on a non-utilitarian (these days) object? My discussion revolves around the fact that omega is probably responsible for [...]
The BR 03 family of watches has stood as a cornerstone of the Bell Ross catalog throughout the years. From Bauhaus-inspired to desert combat-ready, we continually see Bell Ross build upon the existing concept to create watches that are meant to appeal to a wide range of enthusiasts. More recently, the brand has added the third and latest version, the?Bell Ross BR 03-92 Black Camo, to their successful line of camouflage watches. While its true that most Bell Ross models can appear rather loud [...]
Theres been a lot said about the new Patek Philippe Ref. 5212A Calatrava Weekly Calendar watch, mostly about the new eponymous complication, that its a new steel model, and of course, that handwritten font used on the dial. At this point, Ive spent years in watch media and handled or spent time with about every watch there is, and so I feel no guilt about any of my strongly held views. Least of all would be my absolute adoration of Patek Philippe, so naturally, I was eagerly anticipating getting [...]
I recently happened to visit the Smithsonians National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C., where they were displaying the Longines watch that was owned, used, and designed by legendary American aviator Charles Lindbergh in a Time and Navigation exhibition. It was incredibly cool to see it and some other significant historical Longines pieces up close, especially in an exhibit that wasnt specifically about watches. This is the kind of history just about any watch brand would envy, and theres [...]
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been one of the most popular, enduring, and lucrative movie franchises in history. For the past 11 years, comic book fans (and recent converts) have grown up following the adventures of Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and friends, until many of those individual stories wrapped up in 2019s blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame. And it just so happens that the conclusion of the MCs original arc coincides nicely with Marvel comic books 80th anniversary. To celebrate this [...]
Yes, youre always going to get gold diggers, he shrugs, adjusting the strap on his Cartier. But thats the risk you take. This quote ends a rather interesting cultural piece in the New York Post that recently discussed how men in New York buy and wear watches to impress the ladies. Meet the omega Romeos profiles a selection of disparate guys who each feel that an expensive watch is the best way to lure in the gals.A Maserati only goes as far as the parking lot, but a watch you have with you all t [...]
For 2014 Piaget will once again hold and retain the title of worlds thinnest watch with the Altiplano 38mm 900P. For years now Piaget has been releasing mechanical watch after mechanical watch exclusively dedicated to the notion of being the thinnest possible of that type. This practice began long ago with lots of success. In 1957 they released the 2mm thick 9P movement and in 1960 they released the famed 12p automatic movement. Sometimes Piaget gets de-throned in a particular ultra-thin categor [...]
2021 has seen the trend of green dials spread far and wide across the watch industry, with verdant versions of classic watch models popping up in nearly every market segment. Parisian tool watch specialist Bell Ross has thrown its hat into the ring on this trend with its latest release, but rather than simply adding green to an existing design the brand has used the opportunity to refine and purify one of its core dive watch concepts. The new limited edition Bell Ross BR 03-92 Diver Military c [...]
